The word “cold” refers to unsolved crimes, the investigation of which was “frozen”. Being hurt brutally and unfairly many years ago, forgotten victims of crimes seem to be frozen in time, left behind like vanishing ghosts. Dark and inhospitable setting of horror films creates an atmosphere of alienation. The main characters are often isolated from the external world by the cold outside (sometimes literally), unable to overcome the dark abyss that separates them from the society that is estranged from their struggles.
